Re: Change to Architectural Guidelines Related to Tree Removal
Dear Homeowners:
Since its inception, Scotts Mill has had Architectural Standards in place to maintain and enhance the appearance of our neighborhood by ensuring that any exterior property changes are evaluated and approved in accordance with these standards. The Architectural Standards include major landscaping changes, such as the removal of trees.
Recently, Scotts Mill has experienced a number of instances where a significant number of large, healthy trees have been removed without the prior approval of the Architectural Review Committee. This can have a negative impact on drainage and screening, not only on the homeowner’s lot, but on neighboring lots as well.
Effective April 15, 2004, the Architectural Standards as they apply to tree removal will be revised as follows.
- The removal of any trees, regardless of size or health, requires the prior approval of the Architectural Review Committee. If a tree poses an imminent threat to property, telephone Omega, the Chair of the Architectural Review Committee, or a member of the Board of Directors for approval.
- Tree removal should not be initiated until you have received notification that your request has been approved by the Architectural Review Committee. To check on the status of a request, contact Tara Brandon at Omega.
- Homeowners who remove trees without prior approval will be required to replant with a suitable number of trees of at least 8 feet in height. Homeowners will also be required to attend a hearing regarding the violation and may be fined up to $150 per day for the violation.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Board of Directors, the Chair of the Architectural Review Committee, or Omega Association Management. Contact information for each of these people can be found on the Scotts Mill Homeowners Association website (http://www.scottsmill.com).
Sincerely,
Board of Directors
Scotts Mill Homeowners Association, Inc.
